Health and Safety Orientation & First Year Basic Six

This 8 hour course meets the required guidelines for the CCDF Health and Safety Orientation Training. It also meets the requirement for the 6 hours of BFTS new hire training. The course is divided into 8 modules and does NOT need to be taken all at once. As a student you may complete the course over time so that you are not sitting in front of your computer for 8 hours straight. We find that it's best to not take more than 2 modules at a time. The training contains a lot of details and you will not retain as much information if you try to take the entire class at once.

The course covers the required content:

• Prevention and control of infectious diseases
• Prevention of sudden infant death syndrome and the use of safe sleeping practices
• Administration of medication, consistent with the standards for parent consent
• Prevention of and response to emergencies due to food and allergic reactions
• Building and physical premises safety, including identification of and protection from hazards that can cause bodily injury such as electrical hazards, bodies of water, and vehicular traffic
• Prevention of shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma
• Emergency preparedness and response planning for emergencies resulting from a natural disaster or a threatening incident
• Handling storage of hazardous materials and the appropriate disposal of bio contaminants
• Precautions in transporting children
